Today in Addis Ababa Ethiopia the Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni clarified himself before the newly appointed United Nations Secretary General over the instabilities in the East and Central Africa region.
President Museveni said that Ugandan government only wants to push for the negotiations between disagreeing factions in the region.
“Uganda’s position remains to push for negotiations between the disagreeing factions in South Sudan, continue to develop sustainable peace in Somalia, and put an end to insecurity in Eastern DRC,” President Museveni told UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
He then would discuss the security situation in the Great Lakes region, particularly the situation in DR Congo, South Sudan, Burundi and Somalia.
On Burundi, the Ugandan leader noted to the UN Secretary General that former president Benjamin Mkapa has been leading the consultation process, and that this process will soon escalate to negotiations.
In the Burundi diolague it has been seen that two opposing sides between the government and rebels against a third term cannot so soon reach any agreement of a poweringsharing deal and a possible amendment of the constitution that would re-enact term limits to assure a transformative democratic rule.
However the election of a new AU chairperson in Addis Ababa on Monday or Tuesday could seen an effective process reverse the bloody antagonist trend in Burundi, DRC, South Sudan and Somalia.
It is expected that after the two summit that ends on Tuesday AU chairperson Dr. Dlamini Zuma will have had a successor.
Also Rwandan President Paul Kagame will make known his recommandations for the reform of the AU Commission into an effectively autonous body.
