Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie has commended German leisure airliner, Condor, for supporting Kenya’s tourism sector at a time it has been hit by adverse travel advisories.
Kandie, who spoke to The Standard from Abuja in Nigeria on Sunday, said Condor has demonstrated its full support to Kenya’s tourism by continuing to fly to the country after other long-haul charter flight operators stopped or scaled down their operations.
She made the remarks in the wake of the first landing on Friday of an additional charter from Condor.
The Boeing 767-300 aircraft, the first this summer, brought in 126 tourists to the Coast.
Condor station manager at the Moi International Airport William Gikandi said with the additional Friday flight to Mombasa via Kilimanjaro, other flights by Condor to Mombasa would be fly in on Mondays.
Gikandi said another flight, to be exclusively originating from Frankfurt to Mombasa and back, would debut on June 26.
“This is great news for the tourism industry, which is faced with challenges,” Kandie said. She asked other airlines, especially from the US and Europe, to visit the country particularly now that the wildebeest migration is about to kick off at the Masai Mara.
